PEKING DUCK HOUSE.

It is rare to find a Chinese restaurant that caters to vegetarians. Let alone a Chinese restaurant that understands the concept of vegetarianism. You have no idea how many Asian people have told me that duck and chicken are "vegetarian." When FW informed me that her birthday dinner would be at Peking Duck House, I prepared myself for a dinner of white rice and fortune cookies.

Our 18 person table was served a prix-fixe menu of appetizers, soup, the famous peking duck, and also several dishes for the table to share family-style. Much to my pleasant surprise - I was served a separate VEGETARIAN menu. I couldn't tell you exactly what I was eating and I definitely didn't get a chance to snap a picture of everything that was placed on our table (as Peking Duck House is also a BYO...18 guests...BYO...plus a bottle of vodka and a few bottles of champagne...you do the math) but this is definitely now one of my Chinatown favorites.

My vegetarian appetizer place complete with vegetarian lettuce wraps (diced and sauteed mushrooms, tofu, and other veggies), vegetable dumplings (filled with mushrooms, greens, and glass noodles), and a vegetable spring roll (which I traded with the girl next to me for some fried shrimp corn-dog looking thing).

My vegetarian soup with a few varieties of mushrooms, peas, baby corn, and puffed rice!!!

I wish I had taken a picture of the inside of these puppies because I KNOW, I KNOW...these look like burritos from Qdoba. But they were actually my vegetarian substitute for Peking Duck!!!! The crispy, fatty duck slices are usually served atop "pancake" wrappers with a delicious hoisin sauce. Dear lord, I forgot how tasty hoisin sauce could be. My wrappers were filled with some delicious soft, stringy, mush drenched in the sweet sauce...which sounds really unappetizing, but it is fantastic. Really. I'm wondering if Peking Duck House delivers to the West Village.

My insane plate of vegetarian dishes - fried rice, eggplant and garlic sauce, tofu in brown sauce, asparagus stalks, mixed sauteed vegetables...

Lobster with ginger and scallion....NJESFHEJSGNJLSNGSKLENG. Ridiculously saucy and succulenttttt!!! Someone hand me a paper towel to wipe up the drool from my keyboard.

A shot of our banquet table with endless amounts of food...

In a sea of intimidating restaurants, it is always in good NY-fashion to have a go-to spot in Chinatown. I spied vegetarian duck on their menu, who wants to go back!?!?!
