ICE CREAM: WEEKEND EDITION.

The weekend's weather was absolutely glorious - warm, crisp, and sunny. I decided to take advantage of the higher temperatures by eating ice cream both days of the weekend........OK, OK!!!! YOU GOT ME. Let's be honest, I would have eaten ice cream even if it was sub zero temperatures...but let's just go with the theme.

I stopped by Grom on Saturday night and picked up a scoop of Marron Glaces (candied chestnuts) and a scoop of Torta Caprese, which is their flavor of the month. The Torta Caprese was to die for - it was Palmira dark chocolate, Sicilian almond chips, and Battifolo artisanal biscuits. The two flavors were a nice balance when mixed together - the sweet, nutty flavors next to the rich, fudge-like mass. Grom's gelato is excellent and brings the delightful tastes of Italy to New York.

I passed by Phileo Yogurt on the way home today, which apparently hails from Philadelphia! Truly strange, but it is listed as YOGURTLAND in NY MetroMix...but the signage definitely all said PHILEO YOGURT. Hmm, do I sense a buy-out?? Perhaps. Phileo Yogurt is different from the likes of Red Mango and Pinkberry because it is self-serve soft-serve. WHAT??? Do something yourself?? Weird. I was confused at first...and kept on staring at the man behind the toppings counter, wondering when he would ask what size yogurt I wanted...and then I turned to the left and noticed the possibilities that was PHILEO YOGURT. There are about a dozen different flavors to choose from and you can mix and match as you please!!! You can pull yourself as big or small of a serving that you wish!!!

Afterwards, you even scoop your own toppings on your own yogurt. MAN, the employees at Phileo Yogurt really have it EASY!!!!!!!!! Phileo Yogurt has toppings similar to that of Pinkberry and Red Mango...but I noticed something different: CHEESECAKE CHUNKS. YUMMMMM. This is my cup of Pumpkin frozen yogurt topped with granola and strawberries. I think this pumpkin flavor is better than the one being served up by Red Mango right now!!!

And there you have it - two more ice cream places that are within a 5 minute walk of my apartment. I knew God wanted me to move here for a reason.

I'll definitely have to visit Phileo. I lovelove 16 Handles in the East Village, and it sounds like the same business model: do-it-yourself with loads and loads of toppings.

OMG. When I first read this I thought you came to Philly and didn't call me. And I got REALLY MAD, then really SAD...then finished reading and now I just miss you.

I was gonna be sooo sooo pissed. I was pissed for about two seconds, but then I got a little excited for you.

Don't you think it's a sign that you should come to Philly some time soon?
